 Sports teams are an odd business. Owners of sports teams spend lots of marketing money to convince the populace that it is 'your' team. They get everyone seriously worked up over 'your' team and how you need to come out and root for 'your' team.
They then go on to wonder why the populace villifies them when they attempt to move the team to a more profitable venue. Since they are now taking away 'your' team, they become the bad guy. Even trading players evokes this feeling, since the populace identifies with certain players who are then cast aside either because they wanted too much money or weren't that great of a player.
